The Art Therapy Connection is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving children who are at risk of failure in their school setting. Participating children visit our therapists during their regular school day. By making art, they develop a language of expression.

How We Make Connections

Frustration and Anger Wall

Our classrooms feature a wall on which children can vent their feelings as an alternative to aggressive behavior.

The Mandala

This art directive allows children to create a place of safety with the circle, from which they can describe the world around them. Here a 13 year-old girl has drawn a picture of her inner self as separate from the often violent environment in which she lives.

Mask Making

Masks help students express the emotions that they hide. This 10 year-old girl describes her mask as having two sides: emptiness and anger. Her eyes show her watchfulness and her rage.

The 5th Annual Chalk Festival fundraiser was held on Saturday, June 6th at Oz Park in the heart of Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.

The day was an amazing success raising money which will go directly into ATC’s art therapy program for the 2009-2010 school year. Thanks to everyone who participated.
